What's it about?

Every game starts on a fresh set of islands. You put your Throne down on the main island and your grans get on with it, digging out dirt and stone, putting up sheds and beds, planting tea and yarn, and keeping the kettle on.

Across the water are four smaller islands, each with a pyramid buried underneath. Dig one out and its crystal wakes up. Get the right gran there in time and she'll tame it, which opens up new recipes, furniture and trades for the whole colony. Leave it too long and it sinks back under the grass, ready for another go later.

Meanwhile the fairy rings keep coughing up raiders, so you'll want Archer Posts early on and Hwachas and Cannons after that.

There's no game over. Grans get knocked down and carried off to bed, and lost pyramids can be dug out again. Keep all four tamed at once and you earn Granny's Bag of Tricks, a full set of creative tools for building whatever you fancy.

A gran's parlour in Grouchy Grannies: green damask wallpaper, pink curtains, a carriage clock on a little bookcase, a pink standard lamp and a wooden chair.

The grans

Six voxel grans in a row, each leaning on her walking stick in big square glasses: a Baker in a chef's hat, a Gardener in a straw hat, a Hooligran with spiky red hair, a Crocheter, an Archer in a cap and a Cat Sitter with cat ears.
Baker, Gardener, Hooligran, Crocheter, Archer and Cat Sitter. Her hair gives away her trade, and no two cardigans match.

Every gran has one trade and sticks to it. Handygrans build things and knock them down again. Miners dig, Lumbergrans fell trees, and Gardeners plant and harvest the crops. Bakers run the Kettle and the Fussybake Oven, while Crocheters turn out Granny Squares and knitted kit. Hoarders tidy every last scrap into the sheds.

Archers and Engineers deal with the raiders, and Medics carry the fallen to bed. Hooligrans go after the magic itself. Sky Fishers reel supplies up out of the sky, Cat Sitters look after the cats, and the Busybody runs bingo night.

You can change a gran's trade whenever you like. She'll have a few words to say about it.
